to wooyoung:
i'd like to share a story about black cats; specifically this black cat who has been a part of my life for over 6 years now.
as many know, there has sadly been a bad stigma against black cats in a lot of places for a long time, and it's still a problem even today.
this precious friend was at the animal shelter for over 10 months before i adopted him. he was withdrawn, defensive, and had difficulties opening up at first. i was told he was often kept in one of the kennels for picking fights, yet in all the time he's been with me, even when my other older cat with a habit of trying to play when it's not wanted has instigated, he's only ever avoided or acted in defense.
there are sadly so many poor biases and beliefs, either because people don't know better or they don't want to know better. sometimes, for some people, it's easier to hate and mistreat the innocent rather than look inward, to work on themselves, to grow.
do you know who has grown though? since being adopted, i've watched this precious friend blossom into confidence. he has such a playful personality, his own distinct little walk when he's asking for attention, and is so openly affectionate. he went from isolating himself, to being inseparable.
and all it took was love. someone to care. someone to see his worth.
your people see you and they love you as yourself, wooyoung. and we always will.🖤🐈⬛
