RE: The Epik High advice given to ATEEZ on the variety show released recently
As a huge ATINY, the reason I’ve stayed one is because you all are so experimental and true to what you want to do. You and your music are at your strongest when you're creating from the heart. The lyrics and production shine the most when you’ve pushed yourselves to see what you can make and how far your artistic journey can go. If I wanted another Guerrilla, I’d just go listen to The World EP. series. If I wanted another Precious, I’d go back to Precious.
I'm also going to be real for a second. Fans are cool and everything, but doing what the fans want all the time is only going to make things more... fragile ... because if you want to experiment, you'll have a majority of people giving you backlash because you gave them the impression that they have control over your art.
All that to say, make art for you first. Your best work always comes from the heart. And honestly, as someone who’s in this for the long run, I just want to see you keep creating and experimenting because that’s when it really feels like you. I also know you won’t get bored as long as you’re trying new things. If you’re chasing trends or doing what fans expect, burnout will come quickly.
One more thing to remember is that you won’t be able to keep every single fan who comes across your music, and that’s okay. That shouldn’t be the goal anyway. As long as you stay true to yourselves and your art, you’ll keep gaining new fans 5, 10, even 20 years from now. That’s what real longevity looks like.
Anyway, just wanted to share my thoughts. You’re at your best when you’re being authentic and true to who you are, both as artists and as people. Keep pushing the line of genre, lyricism and culture. You guys will be completely fine and keep going higher.
