today's art: "rebirth"
yesterday i was thinking about the immense faith embodied in such a fragile being. butterflies go through such an intense transformation, their journey a mirror of deepest vulnerability as their bodies break apart and are reformed into the shape that gives them the wings to take flight and be fully free.
i think about how in our lives we too go through a process of breaking down, shedding what held us to the ground, and the release of the old from our cocoons allowing us to spread our soul's wings. to be our truest selves, even as those wings create new vulnerabilities. being in the open air instead of hidden behind the securities we build up leaves us more open to risks and dangers. even the wind itself can be so strong it shakes us and makes us question if we made the right decisions; would it have been better to remain that caterpillar among the safety of the leaves?
but to remain in stasis, to hold ourselves back from who we are meant to be is itself a loss. no one is guaranteed a smooth journey after attaining their wings. those winds will whirl around us, push us back; painful words and acts will send us back to the ground where we have to get back up and start the process of flight once more.
it takes so much strength, so much faith, to ourselves become the butterfly. but it is through the very process of knowing ourselves, believing in ourselves and trusting in the companions that life blesses us to be with in that endless transformation of the soul that truly and completely sets us free.
